Somewhere late 2019 me and my friend discovered that the Makerspace here in Jönköping had laser cutter. Someone had lended it to the space for a indefinite time and we started to get in in order right away. Our goal was to cut parts for keyboards, we had both started looking into custom built mechanical keyboards and a laser cutter would be an awesome tool to have. The laser cutter in the back. Unfortunately we had quite mixed experience with the cutter, sometimes it would cut our material like [...]

For many years I've enjoyed creating timelapses. The earliest i still have is from Dreamhack 2002. Since then there I've takes a lot more timelapses, mainly sunsets and stars. https://www.youtube.com/embed/4PJjDDDmT3s Dreamhack 2002 The 2002 Dreamhack one used my parents old VHS camcorder as a video device connected to an old dual pentium 200. After that I've used my Canon EOS 40D with a adapter to use power from the wall instead of battery. Now I mainly use my Canon EOS 5D with Magic Lantern or [...]

CNC engraving

During the first months of the Pandemic I bought a small tabletop CNC machine from Switzerland (read: China). It has a working area of 60x40cm and work very well for wood and other softer materials. I've added some things to it, a vacuum-shoe for example. I've used it to make several prototypes of keyboard cases in wood. I've used oak, birch, pinewood, MDF and plywood. It's fun to design something in the computer and a short while later have it as a physical object. One idea I explored was to [...]

A small experiment with distorting jpeg-images with Javascript in the browser. You can test it here: https://louie.se/dumpster/misc/jpeg-distort/And find the code here: https://github.com/the-louie/jpeg-distort Mostly simple pixel manipulation, like scrolling and skewing, but also a function to introduce random byte-errors in the compressed jpeg-data itself to get some unpredictable but nice effects. [...]

Simple file sharer

One day at my work I got tired of having people mailing large attachments back and forth in complex email-chains. Unfortunately much of the information was quite sensitive and shouldn't leave our network or work computers (I know, email *doh*). Using dropbox was out of the question and when I looked for self-hosted alternatives I didn't find anything that was simple enough for me. So I made my own. I started by forking an existing project that handled uploads and built on that. The the result was [...]

Back in the olden days, before instagram, twitter and facebook was a thing I wanted a way to share photos from lanparties I and others attended. The start The first couple of versions was based on Menalto Gallery (now known as Gallery the Revival). It was a PHP based content management system for images. It supported multiple users, groups and a lot of things that was perfect for our new site. Screenshot from 2007-03-02 Thanks to the already established sister-site lana.nu and it's calendar of [...]

I have a FLIR ONE infrared camera that attaches to my phone. When I just got it I took it for a test and went out in the pitch black forest behind the house. And I was not alone. https://www.youtube.com/embed/DWdGXn6yoNE [...]

During the summers of 2013-2014 i played around with a raspberry pi and a 1-wire sensor placed near the beach Rocksjön in central Jönköping. Thanks to the kind people at Hasse på Sjökanten which is a Hotel and Resturant just by the beach I got to use their Wifi and power for the Raspberry Pi. I had 50 meter of outdoor cat-5e that I wired up to a DS18B20 in a aluminium tube filled with silicone. It was cold. The data was uploaded to a public website that the Hotel and Resturant used to include [...]

After having used the old dashboard a couple of events Telia contacted me if I could create a new one, and that I could. This time I got my friend from previous adventures on this blog, Mr Hannes. His master knowlege about design and UX combined with my backend expertese led us to a novel setup. Test setup at home Insted of only using one screen we wanted to give the dashboard more impact and show more stuff larger. After coming up with a couple of new ideas we finally went with splitting the [...]

Dashoids

The Telia Dashboard for Dreamhack started to feel a bit dated so Hannes and I started thinking of doing a new dashboard, but in a different way. We brainstormed all the possible metrics at DH that we could visualize, everything from traffic in the network to how many cans of soda had been sold and the distribution between sexes regarding shower-count. Since we din't have a lot of time we had to cut down on what data we were to collect, we ended up with seven (expanded to eight during the [...]
